EVENTS AND OPERATIONS MANAGER POSITION SUMMARY

Since 1973, Florida House on Capitol Hill has been a gathering place for Floridians, dignitaries, elected officials, students, business leaders, and tourists on Capitol Hill. Located behind the Supreme Court, Florida House is the only State Embassy in Washington, D.C., and provides a home-away-from-home for Floridians and their guests. Florida House is a non-profit, non-partisan organization not affiliated with Florida’s state government.  We offer a unique location for events, a commanding view of the Capitol Dome, and welcoming destination for guests to learn more about Florida’s history, art, and culture.

The Events and Operations Manager is an integral part of our mission to connect, celebrate, and champion Florida to the world.  It is very seldom any two days will be alike at Florida House. The successful candidate will oversee the booking and implementation of all events hosted at Florida House; be pro-active in making Florida House a welcome place for all guests; maintain internal processes for contracts and financial tracking of events and operations; and work closely with the staff to ensure Florida House remains known for its outstanding hospitality and service.

This position requires some evening and weekend work, including occasional travel. The Events and Operations Manager is a full-time, in-person position with outstanding benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Hospitality and Implementation of All Events at Florida House

  • Actively promote Florida House as an outstanding venue to potential clients.
  • Coordinate all contracted events including scheduling, contracts, planning, and day-of event logistics with clients and vendors
  • Work with the Programs Manager to implement Florida House-sponsored events and programs
  • Input and maintain key contacts, funders, and supporters into a database.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to visitors and school groups by giving tours of Florida House and answering questions in-person and via phone
  • Promote and maintain the onsite and online gift shop
  • Make sure we never run out of orange juice!

Facilities & Operations

  • Select and work with external contractors to ensure any maintenance work is completed, on budget, to our satisfaction
  • Work with the House Coordinator to maintain a schedule for all regular House maintenance and repair
  • Track all revenue and expenses for Florida House with regard to maintenance
  • With the House Coordinator, inventory and maintain all supplies for the house and for events.
  • Meet revenue goals for House rental events
  • Copy and maintain files with all receipts for travel, meetings, house maintenance, office supplies, computer maintenance, training/education
  • Work with the staff to ensure the smooth operation of Florida House

Leadership & Board Governance

  • Serve as Staff Liaison to the House Operations Committee
  • Work in a collaborative environment to meet mission goals including marketing, fundraising, and membership
  • Demonstrate high standards and exceptional quality of service

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

 Qualifications

  • 4 – year college degree or equivalent experience
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in hospitality or event management
  • Demonstrated experience handling multiple-tasks and working with the public

Skills

  • Ability to create outstanding experiences for visitors, guests, clients, and vendors using high standards and an exceptional quality of service, always with a sense of urgency, poise, professionalism, great attitude, and good judgment
  • Be a collaborative team player, capable of working independently and ahead of the calendar
  • Be non-partisan at all times when representing Florida House.
  • Be flexible with work hours, depending on event schedules
  • Have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, both with the public and as a staff member
  • Be organized, creative, and resourceful
  • Have the ability to resolve guest comments or complaints when necessary
  • Have a working knowledge of technology used for meetings and events like sound systems, wi-fi, or Zoom
  • Be proficient in use of Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, Mac OS
  • Use time management principles
  • Be able to push, pull, or lift a moderate weight (50 pounds)
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director

Job Type: Full-time, in person

Pay: $45,000.00 – $55,000.00 per year, commensurate with experience
