Florida House, a premier nonprofit organization, seeks its next Executive Director to guide us into our next 50 years of linking Floridians to Washington, D.C. This is an exciting opportunity for a leader with entrepreneurial vision and creativity to build on a solid base and write the next chapter of Florida House’s history.  The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Florida House operations including fundraising, program development and financial management. As a leader, this position must empower staff, the Board and other stakeholders to achieve their best work to ensure Florida House is fulfilling its mission to serve as the embassy for the state of Florida in Washington, D.C.

Key Responsibilities Include:

 Organizational Leadership and Board of Directors Relations

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to fulfill the mission of Florida House through the development and successful implementation of strategic plans and policies.
  • Work in partnership with the Board Chair to create a well-informed Board by supplying timely and accurate information for critical decision making.
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of the two annual Trustee meetings (one in Washington, D.C. and one in Florida)
  • Build a healthy and successful workplace environment that enhances staff morale and retention through effective hiring, onboarding and coaching of staff.

Fundraising & Development

  • Develop, lead, and implement a comprehensive fundraising and revenue strategy that aligns with the mission and goals of Florida House. Meet established goals.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with potential trustees, donors, foundations, corporations, and other potential funding sources, working closely with the Board of Directors, trustees and other stakeholders to engage donors and secure major donations.

Program Development  

  • Develop and implement relevant programs in-conjunction with the Board of Directors and meet established metrics of success.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and innovation to expand programs and services to fulfill the mission and vision of the future of Florida House.

Public Relations and Marketing

  • Promote Florida House and its programs to our primary customer, Floridians (including: Trustees, donors, partners, the congressional delegation, and the media), to increase participation in our programs and expand financial support for our mission.
  • Enhance the profile of the organization both in Florida and in Washington, D.C. through relationship-building as well as effective written, digital, and oral communications.
  • Be a visible, effective, and inspirational Florida House spokesperson to the media, donors, the wider business and non-profit communities in Florida and Washington, D.C.
  • Establish and maintain a nonpartisan mission focused relationship with Florida’s Congressional Members and the Governor of Florida.

Financial Management

  • Develop with the Board of Directors annual and long-term operating and capital budgets to ensure alignment with established priorities of Florida House through a lens of financial prudence for long-term sustainability.
  • Manage the operational and capital revenue/expenses within established budgets and provide accurate and timely monthly financial reports to the Board.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of audited financial statements and 990.

Qualifications:

  • The candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to the DC area. If not from Florida, the candidate must be Florida curious and nurture a love for Florida. The preferred candidate has a compelling Florida story.
  • Five years of nonprofit or leadership experience with a track-record in nonprofit fundraising success.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required, with an advanced degree or certification preferred.
  • Must be an excellent communicator both verbally and in written communication.
  • Must be a leader who is entrepreneurial, kind, organized, energetic, detail-oriented, able to delegate, decisive, personable, persuasive, interested in all aspects of the position, and who conveys vision, integrity, intelligence, creativity, energy, and humor equal to the challenges of this demanding position.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to manage the budget of a non-profit organization and understand fiduciary responsibilities necessary to make educated decisions.

Salary/Benefits:

The salary will be negotiated between $180,000 and $200,000, plus

  • Fully paid health insurance including vision and dental
  • Life insurance
  • Earned vacation after a 90-day probationary period
  • Nine federal holidays off including: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day
